ROBIS, Elias (“Louie”) - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Louie Robis at the Hamilton General Hospital on Saturday, September 13, 2014. Louie was born in Aetos, Macedonia, Greece and immigrated to Canada in 1956 settling in Hamilton. He married Vasiliki (“Bessie”) Papalexion in 1957 and they remained happily married for 57 years. Only by her incredible effort and love, was Louie able to remain at home through the challenging months that followed his stroke in 2011. Louie was an entrepreneur. His first venture was a restaurant at the corner of Barton and Kenilworth, the Bar-Ken. In 1972 he started the Granada Restaurant in downtown Hamilton. In 1982, he expanded by adding Chester’s bar next door. Louie loved the hospitality business because of the personal connection he had with his countless loyal customers and because of his employees, most of who worked with him in the business for many years. He was very thankful for these relationships. Louie will be remembered by his family as a hardworking, considerate, kind and generous man with a delightfully sarcastic sense of humour. Louie is survived by his beloved wife Bessie, cherished children Michael and Manie (Dwight), and adored grandchildren Katarina and Ellia as well as sisters-in-law of Alexandra Smyrnois, Stephanie Papalexion and Triada Robes. He will be sadly missed by many nephews, nieces and cousins. Louie was predeceased by his parents, sister Elefteria, brother Thomas and brothers in-law Chris Robis, Steve Papalexion, Jimmy Smyrnois, Constantine Skypas and sister-in-law Annetta Skypas. Interment Woodland Cemetery. A special thank you to the compassionate doctors and nurses of Ward 8 West at the Hamilton General Hospital.
